The province of North Holland rents the yard and buildings at Balgweg 105 in Breezand to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). A temporary asylum seekers center will be established at the location.
As of November 1, 2024, the Distribution Act has come into effect, making the reception of asylum seekers a legal duty for municipalities. A maximum of 255 people will be accommodated for a period of up to 5 years.
The municipality of Hollands Kroon is committed to opening a structural asylum seekers center in 2025. Therefore, it has searched for possible locations where the task can largely be carried out, so that the current temporary emergency solution for the 100 refugees in the Van der Valk hotel in Wieringerwerf can be changed to a more structural reception location for 5 years.
The location Balgweg 105 in Breezand has emerged as the preferred location from the location study of the municipality of Hollands Kroon. This location is owned by the province of North Holland. The municipality has formally requested the province to cooperate in the realization of the temporary asylum center at the location. The province has now decided to rent out the location, which it purchased in May 2024, so that the COA can establish a temporary asylum seekers center there.
