The province of North Holland is cutting down 20 trees in the Kop van Noord-Holland that are in poor condition or diseased and therefore pose a danger to traffic safety.

The trees are located along various provincial roads: N241, N242, N245, N248, and N249. The work to remove the trees will start on August 11. A few trees along the N250 will be removed after the summer. For the trees that are cut down, the province will plant new trees at a later date.

Trees in Poor Condition

A few times a year, the province has the condition of the trees along provincial roads checked. Each tree is examined for breaks, diseases, and pests. The trees may have breaks, making branches more likely to break and fall onto the road or onto passing cars or cyclists. Elm disease may also occur. Those trees must be removed to prevent the infection of neighboring trees. Therefore, it is necessary to check the trees and remove them if necessary.

New Trees in Return

The province prioritizes traffic safety but also values nature highly. Therefore, for every tree that needs to be cut down, a new tree will be planted in return. It is preferred to plant these in the spring or autumn because the chance of the trees taking root is greatest then. When this will happen is not yet known.
