The province of North Holland has created a regional advice for the new layout of the airspace and has sent this to Robert Tieman, the caretaker Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management.
The Airspace Review Program is a collaboration between the government, Defense, LVNL, and Schiphol to organize the Dutch airspace more efficiently, cleanly, and quietly. The goal is to create space for both civil and military air traffic, while reducing nuisance for residents and promoting sustainability.
The province of North Holland, also the chair of the Schiphol Administrative Coordination (BRS), emphasizes the need for attention to several points in the further elaboration of the Airspace Review (LRH). Provincial Executive Esther Rommel: “The Airspace Review leads to changes in flight routes and contours, with consequences for noise pollution, air quality, and sleep comfort. It is therefore essential that the protection of the health of residents and the quality of the living environment is the central starting point. We therefore insist that health must be the benchmark for all design choices, taking into account not only noise but also the effects of ultrafine particles, nitrogen, and odor.”
Part of the advice is also a plea for coordination.
Esther Rommel: “The effects of the LRH should not be assessed in isolation. There must also be a good look at other developments and ambitions such as housing construction, energy transition, nitrogen reduction, and the consequences of the new Airport Traffic Decision (LVB Schiphol). This also requires integrated coordination between different tasks of different levels of government. The province of North Holland would like to engage in discussions with the government together with the municipalities where effects are expected.”
