The Burgervlotbrug will be reinstalled starting mid-June. The assembly of the floating bridge will take about a month. It is expected that the floating bridge will be usable again by mid-July.
From June 16, the parts of the Burgervlotbrug will be transported to the site. Assembly work will then take place on both the east and west sides. The cable and electrical work will be repaired, and then it will be tested to ensure everything works properly again.
Precision Work
In early March, a vehicle that was too heavy drove over the Burgervlotbrug, causing it to be severely damaged and blocked. All parts have been checked over the past few months and repaired or newly produced where necessary. It is a time-consuming task because everything requires hand and custom work due to the unique monumental status of the floating bridge. A few millimeters of bending of a part can have far-reaching consequences for the mechanics and cause faster wear.
Crossing for Cyclists and Pedestrians
Even during the reinstallation, the ferry for cyclists and pedestrians will remain available and operates according to this schedule:
- Monday to Thursday: 06:30 - 21:00
- Friday and Saturday: 06:30 - 22:30
- Sunday: 09:00 - 21:00
Shipping
The assembly work on the floating bridge will cause disruptions for shipping. One should expect a maximum waiting time of one hour.
