On January 10, the WinterZon solar park in the municipality of Uitgeest was opened in the presence of Deputy Anouk Gielen. The solar park will provide sustainable electricity for approximately 6,000 households and thus contributes to the climate and energy goals of the Province of North Holland.
The deputy emphasized the importance of projects that show the energy transition is not just policy but becomes visible and tangible in practice. WinterZon solar park demonstrates that North Holland is working on clean energy with attention to nature, landscape, and soil together with residents and local partners.
Local Ownership and Cooperation
WinterZon solar park originated from local ownership and cooperation. Residents and energy cooperatives jointly initiated and developed the project. Special attention was given to landscape integration, biodiversity, and careful use of the soil, fitting within the frameworks of Protected Landscape. This is essential in a busy province like North Holland, where living, nature, agriculture, and recreation come together.
Role of the Province
The Province of North Holland supported WinterZon solar park with subsidies and by enabling the project within the policy for Protected Landscape. In this way, the province contributes to the energy transition in a manner that suits the area and is supported by the local community.
