Deputy Erwin Hoogland emphasizes the importance of this investment: "The National Parks are of great value to Overijssel. They offer residents and visitors the chance to enjoy our unique nature. Think of the beautiful purple carpets on the Sallandse Heuvelrug and the water-rich landscape of the Weerribben-Wieden during this time of year."
The Provincial States decided to allocate the funding for the period 2025-2027. In the coming years, both parks can count on an annual contribution of 171,500 euros. Additionally, there was a broad desire to extend the funding until 2030, for which a motion was adopted. The Provincial States will come up with a proposal for this in 2026.
The provincial contribution comes at an important time for the National Parks. Due to planned cuts from the national government, uncertainty about the future of the parks threatened. Ultimately, this decision was reversed. With additional support from the province, the park organizations can continue their plans and maintain the facilities in the area.
