Gert Harm ten Bolscher, deputy for livable countryside, opens the week with a meeting in the provincial house. "We want the countryside of Overijssel to remain a nice place to live, work, and thrive in the future," says ten Bolscher. "It is impressive to see how many people dedicate themselves daily to the villages and rural areas in Overijssel. This week is a great opportunity to highlight the initiatives and activities that make our countryside so special.”

Maurits von Martels, deputy for Agriculture and Nature, will present the award for the ‘Most Beloved Tree of Overijssel’ on September 12: “Countryside, agriculture, and nature are inextricably linked. Trees, hedges, and other landscape elements contribute to biodiversity, as well as to a beautiful and livable countryside. Trees also strengthen the landscape and have a proven positive effect on our health and well-being. This election shows how great the involvement of residents with the countryside is.”

A lot is happening in the countryside. Whether we work there, live there, or spend our free time there. The Overijssel Week of the Countryside is a week in which we celebrate the strength of our countryside together under the motto and hashtag: #toekomstvooronsplatteland.
