“The province and the city of Zwolle have been closely connected for centuries. In the post-war period, this building, designed by the renowned architect M.F. Duintjer, was carefully constructed and beautifully designed in harmony with the garden, the park, and the city. It is wonderful that this is appreciated as heritage,” said deputy Gert Harm ten Bolscher. “It is a characteristic building where we as a provincial organization still work with great pleasure. Many experience it as a good and pleasant building. We will also continue to use and cherish this building with the same care and in good cooperation with the municipality. This is also a hallmark of heritage: to continue using a characteristic building with historical value and, with respect for the building and the surroundings, keep it suitable for functional use."
“The provincial house is a recognizable and characteristic building from the post-war construction period in our city, the reconstruction. We have recently added a series of these young monuments to our list of municipal monuments because they have cultural-historical and monumental value. The provincial house with the adjacent garden of Mien Ruys is a well-preserved example of a government building from the 1960s. We find it important to secure and maintain the heritage from this period for the future. Many Zwolle residents also mentioned the provincial house when we asked which buildings deserve a place on our monuments list,” said councilor Anja Roelfs.
Open Monument Day
As a new municipal monument, the Provincial House will be open on Saturday, September 13, during Open Monument Day. From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the doors of the Provincial House will be open, and there will be many activities for young and old. Come by and discover our beautiful building, learn more about what the province does, or participate in the treasure hunt.
