Do you want to contribute to endangered plants and animals in the province of Utrecht? Then check the subsidy ‘Habitats of endangered species’. This subsidy was reopened for a year in January 2026. You can apply now!
Many different plants and animals live in the province of Utrecht. As a province, we want to preserve and strengthen this diversity. We specifically focus on the more than 500 endangered plant and animal species found in Utrecht. But we cannot do this alone.
We need your help!
We urgently need the help of others: farmers, land managers, (private) estate owners, nature organizations, and maybe even you. For implementation projects that contribute to preserving our focal species and other Red List species and their habitats, we provide subsidies. Both in rural and urban areas.
Subsidy for your project?
So, are you thinking about creating a pond for crested newts, a bee landscape, or a breeding heap for the grass snake? Or do you want to increase the amount of dead wood in the forest for more biodiversity or improve the water system in an area? Or do you have another good idea? Then quickly check if your project qualifies for a subsidy. The amount of the subsidy depends on several factors, for example, the location of the habitat. The minimum amount is 2,500 euros, the maximum 60,000 euros.
Great results so far
The subsidy has already led to great results! For example, read the story of the Verhoef family. They successfully created a breeding site for the purple heron in the Lopikerwaard on a piece of private nature. Or Landscape Heritage Utrecht (LEU), which used the subsidy to create the ‘Holland Bee Line’ and thus made a valuable habitat for wild bees.
