Mayor Laurens de Graaf of Lopik has informed Commissioner of the King Hans Oosters that he is stepping down as mayor. He will become the director of the Faculty of Management and Organization at The Hague University of Applied Sciences on November 1.
The commissioner congratulates Laurens de Graaf on his new job but calls his departure a loss for Lopik and the province of Utrecht. With his energy and infectious enthusiasm, Laurens has shaped the mayorship and put Lopik on the map. He is genuinely interested in people and listens to their stories, for example during the coffee in the neighborhood events he initiated, said Hans Oosters.
Laurens de Graaf became mayor of Lopik on November 10, 2017. De Graaf is a public administration expert and worked as a university lecturer and researcher at Tilburg University and as a lector at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences before becoming mayor.
The Commissioner of the King will talk to the faction leaders of the municipal council of Lopik for the next steps.
