The coalition agreement Getting to Work for Utrecht provides direction for the ambitions for Utrecht. Two years after the signing of this coalition agreement, the midterm review has been made by the Provincial Executive. The agreement has been converted into 47 action points, of which 28 have now been completed or are in progress, and 14 are on schedule. “We are proud of that. This report shows that work has been done hard and diligently. At the same time, there is still important work waiting in the coming two years,” said Deputy Finance & Organization Has Bakker.
With this midterm review, the college of the Provincial Executive gains insight into the implementation of the coalition agreement halfway through the governance period. In the report, we look at whether decisions have been made on subjects and what their status is: completed, on schedule, or requiring attention. This shows that the implementation of the coalition agreement is on track.
Getting to Work
It is nice to see that actions and initiatives that the province has implemented lead to concrete results. The vast majority of points (28) have been completed or are already in progress. Such as: the Climate Plan, the Housing Acceleration Fund, and the establishment of the frameworks for the Implementation Program for Rural Areas. Of 14 points, decision-making is on schedule. Think of: the update of the environmental vision and the elaboration of measures for better water quality (WFD). Decision-making on all these points is expected this year or next year. The Provincial Executive believes it will meet this schedule.
The province of Utrecht is ambitious in achieving goals. For five action points, extra attention is still needed: further promoting biodiversity, updating the energy transition program, the food agenda, accessibility issues, and decisions on land instruments for nature goals.
On some of these topics, a decision from the national government is first needed. The recent fall of the cabinet causes delays. Adjusted schedules and new developments in provincial programs also affect the pace of decision-making and implementation.
Results Presented
The province of Utrecht continues to commit to the important challenges at hand: expanding the electricity grid and combating grid congestion, providing prospects for the agricultural sector and strong nature, a cleaner living environment, additional housing, investments in accessibility, and more cultural facilities.
We do this together with our partners in the region. The commitment of local authorities, businesses, residents, and social institutions is important to make Utrecht even more beautiful. In this way, we work together for a province where current and future generations can live, work, and recreate well and healthily.
