Kings Commissioner Hans Oosters appointed Petra Doornenbal as acting mayor of Wijk bij Duurstede as of March 2. Doornenbal succeeds acting mayor Mirjam van ’t Veld, who had to step down from her duties as mayor on February 9 this year due to health reasons. The commissioner made the appointment after thorough consultation with the faction leaders of the municipal council of Wijk bij Duurstede.

Hans Oosters: “Petra Doornenbal is a very experienced mayor. I am convinced that her qualities fit well in Wijk bij Duurstede.” Petra Doornenbal has been mayor of the municipality of Renswoude since 2016. Before that, she was a member of the provincial council of Utrecht for 12 years, of which 9 years as faction leader. She also worked for 11 years at an earthmoving and crane rental company in Benschop. 

When the vacancy for a new crown-appointed mayor will be opened for Wijk bij Duurstede is not yet known. 

The commissioner will consult shortly with the faction leaders of the municipal council of Renswoude regarding the vacancy that has arisen.
