The Province of Utrecht supports the global campaign Orange the World. From November 25 to December 10, the House of the Province will again be in the orange spotlight. Additionally, posters will be displayed at bus stops throughout the province to raise awareness for the safety of women and girls in public spaces. Sign the ally pledge and show that you also commit to a society where women feel safe, everywhere and at all times.
Orange the World
Orange the World is an international campaign by UN Women. The campaign takes place annually from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. During this period, the color orange symbolizes worldwide attention to violence against women and girls. The goal: to raise awareness and show that violence against women and girls is not tolerated.
Socially safe province
In the summer of 2025, several incidents and crimes with female victims occurred nationwide and in the Province of Utrecht. We are committed to a socially safe province, especially in the area of mobility. We continuously work on measures to increase safety on and along the roads. Think of good lighting and an open and accessible streetscape. The necessity remains great.
Support for the campaign
Deputy Rob van Muilekom: It is unacceptable that many women and girls feel unsafe, often take detours, or even become victims of violence. We wholeheartedly support the campaign. As a province, we play a clear role in shaping our living environment and are responsible for regional public transport. In this way, we can make an important contribution to increasing safety.
General Director / Provincial Secretary Anneke Knol-van Leeuwen emphasizes the personal importance of the campaign: The stories of women show how necessary it is to make our province safer. I know what it feels like to have to be extra alert while traveling. Orange the World gives a voice to experiences that often remain unheard. We commit ourselves every day to a province where everyone can move safely and freely.
From November 25 to December 10, the House of the Province will again be in the orange spotlight. Additionally, posters will be displayed at bus stops throughout the province to raise awareness for the safety of women and girls in public spaces.
