The provinces of Utrecht and North Holland are collaborating with ten municipalities to invest in a new bike-sharing system. This will help improve accessibility in the Gooi and Vechtstreek and Amersfoort regions.

The participating municipalities are: Amersfoort, Baarn, Blaricum, Eemnes, Gooise Meren, Hilversum, Huizen, Laren, Soest, and Wijdemeren. Together with the provinces, they are investing approximately 600,000 euros per year.

Convenient locations

The agreements have been laid down in a cooperation agreement. This specifies how the costs will be shared. Thanks to this collaboration, more bike-sharing options will become available, even in municipalities on the border of the provinces. This is convenient for residents and visitors.

The first bike-sharing bikes will be on the streets around the summer of 2026. They will be located in convenient spots in residential areas, at public transport hubs such as bus stops and stations, and at public facilities like shopping centers, schools, and business parks.

Smart and sustainable mobility

The implementation of the new bike-sharing system will be carried out by Goedopweg. This is a program in which the province of Utrecht, municipalities, regions Amersfoort and U10, Rijkswaterstaat, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management collaborate. Goedopweg investigates how people can move more smartly and sustainably. The bike-sharing system is an important part of this.
