The province of Utrecht is organizing the Viewing Afternoon Camp Zeist on July 2. Nature lovers will discover how nature will further develop on this old military site. Sustainable demolition work has been carried out for over a year at the site on the edge of Soesterberg. Now that the work is complete, nature is taking over the area.
On Wednesday, July 2, nature lovers will put their best foot forward at Camp Zeist. The viewing afternoon is from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Every full hour, a tour will start with an ecologist from Utrechts Landschap. During the walks, the ecologist will explain how the area will look in the coming years and what makes this area so special. Would you rather explore the 29-hectare area yourself? That is also possible!
Heart of the Heuvelrug
The province of Utrecht and Utrechts Landschap will further develop the nature reserve together within the Heart of the Heuvelrug program. People will soon be able to walk, jog, and cycle there. In one year, fourteen large buildings have been sustainably demolished. All asphalt roads have also been removed. Now that the demolition is complete, the site will be further developed as a nature reserve and made suitable for recreation. The nature reserve is expected to officially open to the public in the second half of 2026.
