The province of Utrecht will replace 5.5 kilometers of bank construction along the Eem in the coming years. The outdated wooden dam walls will be replaced by steel dam walls that are future-proof. The third phase of the work will start in October.
This work will be carried out by Van den Biggelaar Ground and Water Construction on behalf of the province of Utrecht. During the third replacement year, between October 2025 and April 2026, two sections of the Eem will be addressed. This involves a section of 700 meters south of the ferry between Eemdijk and Eemnes on the west side of the Eem. Additionally, a section of 500 meters will be replaced opposite island Zeldert in Baarn, south of the Praamgracht.
Inconvenience
The work will be carried out using work ships. There will be no inconvenience on the roads around the Eem, as the work will take place on and from the water. The ships and the barge are approximately 20 meters wide and 50 meters long. The Eem is wide enough, so shipping will not be inconvenienced.
More information
In the past two years, two other sections of the Eem have already been replaced. This work is part of the project Replacement of Dam Walls Eem, which lasts a total of five years.
