Recently, the Province of Utrecht was informed by the holder of the shooting permit for wolf GW3237m that a wolf was killed on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. An urgent DNA analysis will determine whether it concerns wolf GW3237m. We expect to announce the DNA analysis results on December 12.
The Province of Utrecht has asked the permit holder to suspend the execution of the permit until then.
GW3237m
The province is the competent authority for protected species such as the wolf. After involvement of GW3237m in several serious incidents, on advice from wolf experts, it was decided on safety grounds to remove this specific wolf from the population. Therefore, the Province of Utrecht granted a shooting permit at the beginning of the summer.
Advice
Since August, a avoidance advisory has been in effect for the estates, forest, and nature areas on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug between the A12 and A28. Until the DNA analysis results are known, the current advice remains in effect.
