The eleventh edition of the Zeeland Economic Report has been published. With this report, we periodically keep a finger on the pulse. How is the Zeeland economy doing?

Zeeland Delegation in Canada and USA

Together we work on a sustainable and viable course that the industry in Zeeland needs. This concludes the foreword of this edition of the Zeeland Economic Report, written by deputy Jo-Annes de Bat. In the foreword, he reflects on a trip to Canada and the USA together with Impuls Zeeland, SDR, and HZ University of Applied Sciences. The future-proofing of our industry is a top priority. Connections were therefore strengthened with the sector, such as Dow in Midland and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in Ontario.

Growth Equality and Entrepreneurial Confidence

The Zeeland economy has grown significantly between 2014 and 2024, with an increase of 25.2%. However, the differences between the regions in Zeeland are large. The growth equality between Other Zeeland and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is no less than 30.1%. Also, in this edition, it is noted that entrepreneurial confidence remains negative both in Zeeland and the Netherlands.

Labor Market Tension and Productivity

This edition of the Zeeland Economic Report further examines tensions in the labor market, referring to the shortage of personnel in sectors. In social sectors, such as healthcare and education, the demand for employees remains high, as well as in the ICT and technical sectors. In this edition, you can read more about what the region is doing to attract and retain young people in Zeeland to reduce this labor market tension.

It also looks at labor productivity and the transition to earning capacity. Ageeth van Maldegem, lecturer of new business models at HZ Knowledge Center Entrepreneurship & says about this: “Zeeland shows a productivity level that almost matches the frontrunners of the country. Yet the province still has relatively few frontrunners and many laggards in the development of sustainable earning models.”

as Key

With the elections approaching and the start of winter time, Pieter Raes of KicMPi looks ahead in this edition’s outlook where innovation takes center stage: “Innovation is not a luxury but a necessity to remain competitive. Within KicMPi, we see daily how innovation makes the difference.”
