The fund is part of the Veerse Meer Cooperation Agreement, which was signed today. With this agreement and the area fund, we arrange the joint investment for projects in the Veerse Meer area. To preserve what is valuable in Veerse Meer and strengthen what can be improved, governments, entrepreneurs, residents, and users work together in the Veerse Meer area cooperation. Together, we work towards a healthy nature and an attractive area for now and the future.

The seven authorities involved in Veerse Meer—Municipalities of Goes, Middelburg, Noord-Beveland, and Veere, Rijkswaterstaat, Waterschap Scheldestromen—form the board of this area cooperation (the Administrative Consultation Veerse Meer). The board is the contact point for new developments and progress of project implementation. With the area fund, the projects in the Veerse Meer implementation agenda are realized. Step by step, we jointly implement the Veerse Meer area vision.

Water Quality

One of the topics in the Administrative Consultation Veerse Meer is improving water quality. Rijkswaterstaat, together with the Province of Zeeland, Staatsbosbeheer, and Waterschap Scheldestromen, has started a preliminary exploration of solutions and is conducting a pilot for the reintroduction of seagrass. The Administrative Consultation is working on a Field Lab to test innovative short-term measures to improve water quality in the lake and polder ditches. Several projects are underway and in preparation in the area, such as storing and retaining fresh water on Noord-Beveland (project municipality Noord-Beveland) and in a polder near Wolphaartsdijk.

Veerse Meer Website Online

To inform residents, entrepreneurs, visitors, and stakeholders about the implementation and progress of projects, a website for Veerse Meer was also launched today. The website is one of the means we use to inform the community. On this website, more information about the Veerse Meer area, the area cooperation, and the projects within Veerse Meer can be found. The Veerse Meer Area Fund is now established and funded with money from Area Investments Nets at Sea. It is expected that multiple budgets will be linked to this fund in the coming years.
