The municipality of Sluis can call itself the Zeeland Tile Removal Champion. In 2025, the municipality removed no less than 48,542 tiles. Sluis thus takes over the title from the municipality of Terneuzen. On Monday, November 17, the victory was announced by the national organizer of the Tile Removal event.

The NK Tile Removal is an annual event. Throughout the Netherlands, municipalities compete to replace as many tiles as possible with greenery. The number of removed tiles is tracked on nk-tegelwippen.nl. In Zeeland, there is also a special pool: The Zeeland Tile Removers. Here, Zeeland municipalities compete for the title of Zeeland Tile Removal Champion. All thirteen Zeeland municipalities participated again in the latest edition.

A great achievement

Zeeland has thirteen different municipalities with varying populations. The results of the Zeeland Tile Removers pool are fairly determined based on the number of tiles removed per thousand inhabitants. This earned the municipality of Sluis a clear victory.

In 2025, the municipality of Sluis removed more than 5000 m2 of hard surfaces. Of this, 3,692.84 m2 of paving was replaced by grass, planting beds, and trees. Additionally, the municipality replaced 1,439.35 m2 of pavement with semi-paved grass concrete blocks. A great achievement!
