Work on the Gentsevaart in Kapellebrug is in full swing. The work is carried out in phases. This means we do not work on the entire length and width at once, but in sections. By working in phases, we keep the area as accessible as possible. The first phase started last summer. The construction of the new roundabout at Molenstraat and the replacement of the sewer are underway. From November 20, everyone can use the new roundabout. The new road between the Belgian border and the gas stations will also be open to traffic from that date.
Completion of the First Phase
In the past three months, we have replaced the sewer and renewed the carriageway, bicycle, and footpaths on the odd side. The work is almost finished. The bicycle and footpaths on the even side will be constructed in the coming weeks. The top layer of asphalt, road markings, and greenery will be done next year. From Thursday, November 20, traffic will drive on the new carriageway. On December 19, the new bicycle/footpath will also be ready with connections to the driveways of the houses. Note: trucks must follow the detour via Zelzate until the entire work is completed.
Roundabout at Molenstraat Open from November 20
Work on the new roundabout at Molenstraat started in early September. Construction is proceeding according to plan. We are also constructing the parallel road Roskamstraat. From Sint Jansteen, you can drive onto the roundabout via this road in the new situation (from November 20). From there, you can choose the direction of Hulst, Clinge, or Kapellebrug. Through traffic to and from Hulst drives via a temporary shortcut over Witte-brugstraat. Cyclists can follow the detour via Kapelstraat. On Thursday, November 20, everyone can use the new roundabout.
Sewer Works
On the even side, the sewer has been replaced up to Plus Mangnus. On the west side, we are continuing the sewer installation between Plus Mangnus and Brouwerijstraat. This will be done until December 19.
Closure of the Roskamstraat–Gentsevaart Intersection
In the coming weeks, we will continue working on constructing a temporary road (bypass) between Roskamstraat and Plus Mangnus. From November 20, traffic will drive over this road, with traffic lights allowing alternating traffic flow. Bicycle traffic is not possible and is diverted via yellow signage. This gives us space to replace the carriageways, footpaths, and cycle paths. The Roskamstraat/Gentsevaart intersection is closed to all traffic until Friday, December 19.
