Press release

The Province of Zeeland has commissioned KANSTRUCT business consultancy to conduct an in-depth study into the opportunities of mono-manure digestion in Zeeland and the possible role of the Province in this. The study aims to clarify what mono-manure digestion can contribute to nature restoration, nitrogen reduction, green gas production, and a business model for agriculture, and what it cannot.

Why a study?

Mono-manure digestion, the digestion of exclusively animal manure, is seen as a possible link in the approach to nitrogen and the sustainability of agriculture. At the same time, this technique raises questions about scale, costs, risks, permitting, and spatial integration. The Province of Zeeland wants to investigate these points carefully, factually, and first, so that (existing) initiators, governments, and financiers gain insight into the economic feasibility and conditions.

What does the study involve?

A broad analysis will be conducted for the entire Zeeland region, independent of existing initiatives or concrete projects. Additionally, a business case will be developed. This study aligns with the nitrogen plan ‘Zeeland on the way to recovery - Nature restoration and nitrogen reduction approach 2025’ and the associated package of measures aimed at reducing nitrogen emissions from manure. We maintain contact with ongoing initiatives. The results of the study are expected before summer.
