Traffic Information

The construction work on the Gentsevaart in Kapellebrug is in full swing. We are executing the work in phases to keep the area accessible. On Monday, September 1, we will start work on the roundabout at Molenstraat. Road users should also expect significant traffic disruptions there.

First Phase Started

On August 11, the first phase started. The road has been broken open from the Belgian border to the Sakko gas station. The sewer, roadway, bike paths, and sidewalks are being replaced there. A temporary road (bypass) allows traffic to flow. Motor vehicles can pass here alternately with traffic lights. The bypass is only intended for passenger cars and (local) freight traffic with a . Through traffic is not allowed to drive here and must follow the indicated detour routes. In addition to the expected traffic disruptions, we have noticed that many trucks are still using the bypass. This creates dangerous situations and delays. Enforcement is being carried out and fines have already been issued. We expect to be finished with the main roadway of this work phase by the end of October.

Construction of Roundabout Molenstraat

On Monday, September 1, we will start constructing a roundabout at Molenstraat. From that day, you will no longer be able to turn onto Molenstraat from Gentsevaart. Cars heading towards Clinge will take the detour via Groote Kreekweg. Traffic to and from Hulst will go via a temporary crossing over Wittebrugstraat. Road users should expect traffic disruptions. We expect traffic to be able to drive over the new roundabout by mid-November (over a temporary surface). The roundabout will later receive a top layer of asphalt. The roundabout is an important part of the redesign and ensures better traffic flow and increased traffic safety.

Closure of Intersection Roskamstraat–Gentsevaart

On September 1, we will also start replacing the sewer on the even side of Gentsevaart. This work will be carried out in the verges. We will work from Roskamstraat towards Brouwerijstraat. Subsequently, we will also construct a temporary road in that section.  Motor traffic can pass here alternately with traffic lights. This allows traffic to continue during the work on the main roadway. The intersection Gentsevaart/Roskamstraat will be closed from September 1 to December 24 for all traffic.
