Sports, playing, moving, and meeting each other outside is healthy and fun. The community center De Buurtfabriek Delft could therefore count on a subsidy from the province of South Holland for the construction of a multifunctional sports field. With a real field goal, deputy Anne Koning opened the sports field together with alderman Karin Schrederhof, aptly named Carpet of the Neighborhood.
Sustainable Sports Field of Delft
On Saturday, September 27 – during National Neighbors Day – the Buurtfabriek in Delft-West officially opened. In this living room of the neighborhood, residents can make music together, read books, garden, do DIY projects, and play sports. Because next to the Buurtfabriek building lies the brand new multifunctional sports field Carpet of the Neighborhood. With adjustable baskets and a specially springy floor, this artistic sports field is suitable for various sports for adults and children. Deputy Anne Koning got to experience it herself and scored a field goal almost immediately. “Being able to play sports and move together around the corner is so important. It’s fun, pleasant, and healthy! So go outside and make use of this wonderful sports field,” said Anne Koning before she went onto the field.
NPLV Area
Delft-West is one of the areas in the Netherlands where livability and safety are under pressure. Here, problems with education, poverty, health, housing, and safety are piling up. The National Program for Livability and Safety (NPLV) collaborates with six ministries, nineteen municipalities, residents, and local partners to improve livability and safety in areas like Delft-West. And the province also contributes where possible.
Through the opening of a movement-friendly living environment, the province of South Holland has granted a subsidy of €29,998 to the Municipality of Delft for the construction of the multifunctional sports field. The sports field is the most sustainable sports field in Delft; the floor panels are modular and movable, maintenance-free, and last at least 15 years.
Subsidy Scheme for Movement-Friendly Living Environment
With the subsidy scheme for a movement-friendly living environment, the province encourages initiatives that contribute to an inclusive living environment that facilitates, stimulates, and challenges people to move, play, sport, and meet in publicly accessible outdoor spaces. The province wants the subsidy to reach the places where it is most needed and has therefore focused special attention on the NPLV areas since this year. The Carpet of the Neighborhood is the first NPLV area to receive a contribution from the subsidy scheme for a movement-friendly living environment. Anne Koning: “Sports and movement connect and are an excellent way to enhance livability and safety. It’s beautiful to see this come together in this project.”
