In the first quarter of 2025, almost 3,500 new homes were completed in South Holland. This is evident from the Quarterly Report on Housing Stock Developments from the Province of South Holland. Nearly 3,000 new homes were delivered. Additionally, approximately 500 homes were added in other ways, such as the transformation of offices into apartments.
From 2022 to 2030, the province aims to realize almost a quarter of a million new homes. The current count stands at over 59,000 homes delivered. Furthermore, nearly 52,000 homes are in the pipeline. For these homes, a building permit has been issued or construction has started. In the first three years and three months, work has begun on about 111,000 homes, of which some have already been completed. This is almost 45 percent of the ambition.
Challenges
Deputy Anne Koning: “We continue to build in South Holland, even though the challenges are great. In addition to nitrogen, we face other challenges (conditions) for housing construction, such as mobility, labor capacity, investment ability, objections, etc. Network congestion is also currently making it more difficult for many housing projects.”
Homes for Everyone
In South Holland, most homes in the Netherlands need to be built. The province wants homes to be available for everyone: for young and old, rich and poor, in cities and villages. We also look at whether enough social rental homes are being built, and whether they are fairly distributed across South Holland. We assist municipalities and other parties with funding, knowledge, and expertise.
