In the third quarter of 2025, nearly 5,000 new homes were completed in South Holland. According to the Quarterly Report on Housing Stock Developments from the Province of South Holland, 3,649 new-build homes were constructed. Additionally, 1,318 homes were added in other ways, such as converting offices into apartments.
From 2022 through 2030, the province aims to realize nearly a quarter of a million new homes. The current count stands at 67,387 homes delivered. Furthermore, more than 53,000 homes are ‘in the pipeline’. For these homes, building permits have been issued or construction has started.
In the first three years and three quarters of this year, construction has already begun on over 120,000 homes, some of which have already been completed. This is nearly half of the number of homes South Holland wants to have built by 2030.
Conditions
There are significant concerns in South Holland about the number of homes still to be built. The province wants to have many more projects started in the short term through the Realization program. For this, it is necessary that the national government helps to implement these housing plans.
Without good solutions for financial gaps, infrastructure, an overloaded power grid, and nitrogen problems, less and less construction will take place. This is also stated in the Housing Conditions report South Holland. Fortunately, it was announced in November that a nice national subsidy for infrastructure is coming for several projects. Still, more help is needed for other projects.
Deputy Anne Koning: “Despite all challenges, we continue building in South Holland. We do what we can ourselves to build even more in the short term. At the same time, we really need help from the national government to make big steps. We want to keep building, as much and as fast as possible.”
