On Monday evening, the municipal council of Vlaardingen decided to nominate Deputy Frederik Zevenbergen as mayor. This means he will soon say goodbye after two terms in the provincial government of South Holland.

Frederik Zevenbergen has been a member of the Executive Board of Deputies in South Holland representing the VVD since 2021. As a provincial administrator, he worked on improving accessibility in the densely populated province and resilient municipalities. He was previously a member of the Provincial Council and before that a councilor in Leiden for 17 years. In Vlaardingen, he will succeed departing mayor Bert Wijbenga. The appointment is scheduled for January of the following year.

Grateful

Zevenbergen looks back with pride: “My heart beats for South Holland. Whether as a councilor in Leiden or in recent years as a Provincial Council member and deputy. It was a privilege to have contributed to an accessible, safe, and pleasant South Holland. That was only possible thanks to the great cooperation I experienced with our people at the provincial house, the municipalities, and everyone else outside. I am very grateful to everyone for that. As the son of a mayor, I know the mayoral role up close. So when the opportunity arose to become mayor of Vlaardingen, I knew this was my moment. I am grateful to the municipal council for the trust they have expressed. I look forward to getting to know the Herring City and its residents even better.”

Nice nomination

Kings Commissioner Wouter Kolff: “I congratulate Frederik Zevenbergen, his partner, and the municipality of Vlaardingen on this nice nomination. We will greatly miss him in the administration of the province of South Holland, but this step is well deserved.”
