On December 1, 2025, the Subsidy Scheme for the restoration of national monuments in South Holland will reopen. On November 11, 2025, the Provincial Executive decided on several changes to this subsidy scheme, which will take effect from the upcoming application periods.

Changes to the Subsidy Scheme for Restoration of National Monuments

  • Paragraph 3 on ‘Repurposing, sustainability, and accessibility of national monuments’ is removed.
  • ‘Accessibility measures to improve the monument for people with disabilities’ are added to paragraph 2 Restoration of national monuments.
  • Newly added in paragraph 6 is the scheme for Restoration of small national monuments.
  • Subsidies can only be applied for once every 3 years per monument number.
  • In the ranking in paragraph 2, points are only awarded for an ERM-certified contractor and no longer for an ERM-certified advisor.

New: paragraph for small national monuments

From 2026, from the first Monday in June until August 1, subsidy applications for the restoration of small monuments can be submitted. This subsidy scheme is intended for the restoration of small national monuments or for outbuildings/objects (of historical value) on the grounds of a national monument.

Examples include fountains, memorials, gravestones, fences, kiosks, gates, (city) pumps, and statues, as well as bakehouses, churn mills, or other small historic structures (max. 30 m2 floor area) at a national monument farm.

This paragraph has a ‘continuous opening’, meaning that subsidy grants are assessed in order of receipt and (partly) granted immediately. A separate subsidy ceiling has been set for this paragraph in the subsidy scheme, for which the rule applies during the application period: while supplies last.

The total restoration costs of these small monuments may be a maximum of €100,000. The maximum subsidy contribution will be €25,000.
