Fresh logistics in South Holland is making significant progress. New solutions for accessibility, sustainability, and digitalization demonstrate that innovation in the sector is advancing rapidly. At the Fruit Logistica trade fair in Berlin, the Province of South Holland, Dutch Fresh Port, and their partners presented the latest results within the Fresh Pacts.

During the international fair, the partners provided an update on the achievements of recent months regarding logistical accessibility within the Fresh Pacts.

Governments and businesses collaborate in the Dutch Fresh Port and Westland Fresh Pacts to fulfill their important role in food supply more smartly and cleanly.

Smart Solutions

One milestone is the completed design for a new hub for refrigerated containers. This hub will have 50 spots and will help better distribute trips throughout the day. This allows 20,000 trips per year to be shifted to off-peak hours, contributing to less traffic congestion and more efficient infrastructure use.

Additionally, it was announced that the new inland shipping line Dutch Fresh Port Corridor between Maasvlakte and Waalhaven has started. Since January, ships sail three times a week, reducing truck traffic and emissions. A study has also begun on opportunities for rail freight transport and the potential role of the Kijfhoek rail terminal in the fresh logistics chain.

Furthermore, the HubConnect Living Lab has been launched, enabling companies to collaborate better through digital platforms and data sharing.

With these developments, Dutch Fresh Port is becoming an example within the Rotterdam Realization Pact. Governments, companies, and knowledge institutions demonstrate that a sustainable, smart, and well-accessible fresh chain is getting closer.
