The region around Noordwijk has been making significant strides as a space region for years. Supported by the Province of South Holland, the municipality of Noordwijk, and other partners, NL Space Campus is growing into a dynamic ecosystem where talent, technology, and entrepreneurship come together, stimulating and accelerating collaboration and innovation with space technology and data.

Inspiration Book Looks Back and Forward

Recently, the inspiration book NL Space Campus has been published. It details who forms the campus, what developments have been realized, and what is yet to come. The book shows how the campus has developed into a place where space parties meet, collaborate, and innovate since the Regional Deal ESTEC and Space Campus Noordwijk. You can read about the growth of shared facilities, knowledge sharing, and the low-threshold access to test locations, expertise, and housing. 👉 View the inspiration book here (opens in new window)

Strong Regional Cooperation as a Foundation

The Province of South Holland and the municipality of Noordwijk have played a leading role in the development of the campus for years. With regional instruments such as the Subsidy Scheme Campuses South Holland and Campus Vouchers, significant investments are being made in shared facilities and the promotion of innovation cooperation within the space cluster. The campus organization itself is financed by the province and municipality, with additional support from the EFRO Opportunities for West 3 program. For the development of the Basecamp, the province and municipality are preparing a provincial subsidy instrument. The Netherlands Space Office (NSO) also makes a significant contribution to projects and programs.

Deputy Meindert Stolk (Economy & Innovation):

The development of the NL Space Campus is a wonderful example of how we in South Holland work on innovation, collaboration, and economic growth. We are not only investing in shared facilities and buildings but especially in strengthening an ecosystem where space, technology, and entrepreneurship find each other.

Acceleration with Support from the State

The next step in the development of the campus is now being prepared. In the recent cabinet response to the Long-Term Space Agenda, the State confirms the crucial importance of ESA-ESTEC and the NL Space Campus. Together with the province and municipality of Noordwijk, the State wants to intensify collaboration in the coming years for the further development of the campus into a leading international space hub.

Currently, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, NSO, the Province of South Holland, and the municipality of Noordwijk are working on a joint implementation program for the coming years. This program focuses on accelerating the further development of NL Space Campus as a driver for innovation, employment, and collaboration in the international space sector. The expectation is that the program will be ready in the autumn of 2025.

Alderman Pim van Strien (Municipality of Noordwijk):

“We are proud of what has been achieved, but equally ambitious about what is yet to come. With the State on board, we can truly accelerate. The campus will become the center where entrepreneurs, researchers, and students work on space applications. This will create jobs, livelihoods, and brilliant solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.”

Building Together the Space Hub of the Future

The publication of the inspiration book and the announcement of the joint implementation program mark an important moment in the further development of NL Space Campus. A place where companies, knowledge institutions, and governments collaborate on technological innovations, new applications, and strengthening the position of the Netherlands in the international space sector.
