The province of South Holland is launching a new subsidy scheme for the construction of central washing stations for agricultural machinery. This subsidy opens on Monday, March 9. Farmers can apply until June 9, 2026.

At the central washing stations, farmers can clean their machines and collect the dirty water, which may contain residues of crop protection products. This prevents these substances from entering surface water. This is better for water quality and for life in and around the water. Agricultural entrepreneurs can immediately take steps towards an emission-free farm and thus cleaner water.

Better water quality in our province

Deputy Arne Weverling (water, climate and soil) emphasizes the importance: “Collecting wash water is a logical next step for farmers to reduce farm emissions. Together we improve water quality in South Holland. We urge entrepreneurs to make use of this subsidy. It is an investment that contributes permanently to clean water and a future-proof business operation.”

A central washing station is a shared facility for multiple farmers. The washing station must be used by at least 15 farmers. This lowers the cost per user, while the benefit for water quality becomes greater. The province has made €2,483,000 available for this scheme.

Hiring an advisor

A central washing station requires more than a physical investment. Bringing together at least fifteen to twenty agricultural entrepreneurs at one location requires careful organization, independent guidance and good coordination with regional parties. Think of making cooperation agreements, submitting the subsidy application and creating support among users.

Therefore, you can also apply for a subsidy for the costs you incur to hire an advisor. You can hire this independent advisor who supports the application and organizing cooperation between farmers. This relieves initiators and improves the quality of applications and cooperation.

Deputy Aad Straathof (agriculture) also encourages participation: “With this subsidy, we give farmers a helping hand in reducing their farm emissions. With a central washing station, you do this together, making it feasible for everyone. Fewer unnecessary emissions also help preserve the shrinking package of crop protection products. So my call: get moving, join others in the neighborhood and take advantage of this opportunity.”

So if you have a company involved in agriculture, contract work or mechanization, you can apply for the Central Washing Stations subsidy.
