Good and healthy eating is important for our health, but there is still much to gain in South Holland. Therefore, a new subsidy is now available for projects that make healthy choices the easiest.

In South Holland, 1 in 7 children and more than half of adults are overweight. This increases the risk of lifestyle diseases, with high healthcare costs as a result. An important cause: 80% of the food supply in supermarkets is processed and unhealthy.

Deputy Mariette van Leeuwen: “We want to create a healthy food environment together, where the healthy choice is the easiest. Where people know what they are eating, where it comes from, and how they can eat healthily. In an easy, affordable way, without food waste. Because there is no better future than the one in which we can all eat healthily together!”

It is now possible to apply for subsidies for initiatives that contribute to:

  • Food education: making young people food-skilled (secondary education, vocational education, (secondary) special education, practical education).
  • Social food activities: such as community gardens, cooking or eating together.
  • Reducing food waste: for example, through a food hub that saves leftover products from the trash.

A total of €200,000 in subsidies is available in 2025, with a maximum amount per application of €20,000. Applications can be submitted until July 15.
