Do you know someone who is committed to a healthier and more sustainable food system? Someone who makes a difference with an inspiring food initiative and contributes to the value of our food? Then nominate them for the Value Ring 2025!
On Friday, October 3 - during the Week of Our Food - the province of South Holland will award 3 Value Rings. This distinction is intended for individuals who are committed to raising awareness about food - from where it comes from to how we value it.
Think of people who are involved in food education or who strengthen the bond between farmers and citizens. Or someone who works on food innovation, has set up a food connection place, or contributes to more conscious and healthy eating behavior - at school, at work, or in the neighborhood.
Nominate Your Food Innovator
So passionate food innovators are sought from all corners of South Holland. Until September 14, you can share your food innovator via the website denkmee.zuid-holland.nl/waarde-ring (opens in a new window)
Note: you are nominating a person, not an organization or company. So from farmers, gardeners, and fishermen to teachers, directors, or other doers with a heart for good food.
Deputies Health Mariëtte van Leeuwen (Health), Agriculture Frank Rijkaart (Agriculture), and Meindert Stolk (Food Innovation) will choose 3 winners from all submissions.
Why the Value Ring?
In South Holland, 1 in 7 children and more than half of adults are overweight. This is partly due to the current food supply. We want to move towards an environment where healthy eating is the easy choice: better available, affordable, and visible.
Through our provincial Food Vision, we are working towards a food-savvy generation - one that knows where our food comes from, enjoys it, and combats waste. With the award of the Value Ring, we highlight people who contribute to this. So that we can learn from them and be inspired. Because we build a healthy food environment together.
Reflection 2024
Last year, the first South Holland award was given to Harvest Care, for connecting farmers, doctors, scientists, and residents with health problems. A second Value Ring went to Oogst for their new-style farmers shop - with local, seasonal, and circular products. Mensa Mensa received the third Value Ring. This social eating place in Rotterdam-South offers a healthy, affordable meal for a small amount.
