This week, Irma Kenter, director of Accessibility Housing, on behalf of deputy Arne Weverling, opened the new charging station of Zero Emission Services (ZES) at the Inland Terminals Group in Alblasserdam.
She did this together with Brigit Gijsbers (Deputy Director-General Aviation and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management), Berte Simons (COO, Port of Rotterdam) and Marc Bekkers (Director Logistics, Heineken).
With this charging station, the province of South Holland takes an important step towards a cleaner and future-proof inland shipping. By enabling electric sailing, we reduce emissions and keep inland shipping competitive compared to road transport. This is not only good for the living environment but also crucial to keep our province accessible.
The province of South Holland has invested in this development together with the government and private parties. Every euro of public support delivers multiple values: innovation, cleaner transport, and a stronger economy.
Through this collaboration, it becomes more attractive to transport goods by water. This reduces pressure on the roads and we work towards a cleaner and better accessible region, from which residents and businesses directly benefit.
