The open evening organized by the Province of South Holland to present the Final Design of the Gate of Buijtenland was well attended on Wednesday, November 26. There was great interest in the main entrance of the Buijtenland of Rhoon.

Now that the Final Design is ready, the development of the Gate of Buijtenland is entering a new phase. The Gate of Buijtenland will become an attractive meeting place with recreation and hospitality for both residents of the immediate area and the city of Rotterdam. From this gate, visitors can discover the Buijtenland of Rhoon by walking, cycling, horseback riding, or boating.

Surprising

The local residents who attended the open evening responded mostly positively. They look forward to the developments. The temporary Pop-up information point contributes to this. From next summer, this temporary information point with simple hospitality and play nature aims to open its doors. The striking lookout tower shaped like a fruit tree also stood out. From this robust tower made of steel with wooden cladding, visitors will soon look out over the area. The information in the tower invites them to explore the area further. The Gate consists of 3 building plots, which will be made available in the future to (recreational) entrepreneurs fitting the Buijtenland of Rhoon.

Attractive and accessible

The Buijtenland of Rhoon area will transform in the coming years into an attractive and accessible nature and recreation area with nature-inclusive agriculture. The Gate of Buijtenland contributes to the accessibility of this area by connecting walking and cycling paths to the existing paths. There will also be 2 horse mounting points and sufficient parking spaces.

Green maintenance

In recent years, the area where the gate will be located has become increasingly difficult to access and dense vegetation has caused nuisance. Therefore, before the breeding season (March 15, 2026), the contractor will clear the site to make room for the 3 building plots. The greenery will be pruned back and partly removed, making the area more open and thus safer. This is done under the supervision of an ecologist. A rich variety of trees, shrubs, and plants will be replanted to replace the removed greenery.

Area development Gate

The Province of South Holland has taken on the area development Gate at the end of 2024 in good consultation with the municipality of Albrandswaard and does this in cooperation with the area partners, who were also present during this open evening.
