The Province of South Holland and Staatsbosbeheer are jointly organizing the Day of the Bentwoud: a small-scale festival with sporting and recreational activities for young and old in the Bentwoud. The Day of the Bentwoud is on June 28 and is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the recreation area. The theme of the day is Experience the Bentwoud.
The Province of South Holland and Staatsbosbeheer are co-owners of the Bentwoud, the largest recreational forest in South Holland. Since its establishment in 2000, efforts have been made to develop the recreational forest, which has grown to over 800 hectares and has become a fully-fledged recreation area with a quarter of a million unique visitors per year! With its dynamic nature, the Bentwoud is a magnet for flora and fauna, and there is also plenty for people to experience. You can enjoy walking and cycling, go on excursions with the forest ranger, or just explore on your own. In the Bentwoud, you can wander off the paths and enjoy roaming freely.
Exert, relax, and discover!
During the Day of the Bentwoud on Saturday, June 28, you will experience the Bentwoud in miniature. At the festival grounds near parking lot West, you can do everything that you can usually do in the Bentwoud, and a little more! Come build a birdhouse, ride a lap on the mountain bike course, and discover which plants you can eat during a wild picking walk. For children, there is the opportunity to walk the unique Gnome Path and join one of the fun nature workshops from NatuurWijs. The forest rangers and volunteers from Staatsbosbeheer and the Province of South Holland will be present all day to tell you more about the area and give short tours. And of course, you can enjoy delicious food and drinks at the festival grounds; there are various food stalls available.
Official Moment
In addition to all the festivities, there will also be attention during the Day of the Bentwoud for the value of the Bentwoud for the Province of South Holland in general and the surrounding municipalities in particular. At 12:15 PM, deputy Anne Koning and Provincial Head of South Holland at Staatsbosbeheer Paul Laudy will officially inaugurate the event area where the festival is held. The Day of the Bentwoud is the first event to be organized here since the area has been officially designated as an event area. Koning and Laudy will perform the official opening of the area in the presence of councilors from the municipalities of Alphen aan den Rijn, Waddinxveen, and Zoetermeer, the Friends of the Bentwoud, and the Users Platform Bentwoud.
