From November 3 to 28, landowners in South Holland can once again apply for subsidies through the scheme More Forest in South Holland.

The subsidy is intended to stimulate more forest development in South Holland. Landowners who want to establish forests can receive financial support for this. In 2025, € 1.8 million in subsidies will be available.

You can apply for the subsidy if you are a landowner or leaseholder and wish to plant forests on your land. The subsidy can be requested for the planting of forests and for a change of use from agricultural land to nature or forest in combination with forest planting or spontaneous forest development.

The plan must also demonstrate how the forest fits into the current landscape and contributes to biodiversity. See all information on applying for the subsidy.

Forests and Trees are Important for Our Province

Forests and trees make a positive contribution to several national and provincial tasks. Forests and trees are good for recreation, health, CO2 storage, biodiversity, and climate adaptation (countering heat stress and managing excessive rainfall). Therefore, it is desirable to establish forests, contributing to a healthy and attractive South Holland.

Subsidy is Part of the National Forest Strategy

In 2020, the national government (in consultation with the provinces) established the forest strategy. The national goal is to expand 37,000 hectares of forest, which is 10% compared to the forest area in 2020. The approach of the province of South Holland is described in the Growth Model for Forests and Trees in South Holland.
