The Province of South Holland and the municipality of Dordrecht have agreed on the construction of over 2000 homes on the Dordtse Maasterras. A unique project, as so many homes are not often added to central locations in cities. Aldermen Maarten Burggraaf and Wim van der Kruijff and the deputies Anne Koning and Frederik Zevenbergen signed a governance agreement during the South Holland Housing Conference.
The officials agreed that of the 2,088 new homes on the Maasterras in phase 1, 522 will be social rental homes. More than 600 affordable owner-occupied homes will also be realized on the Maasterras. At another location in Dordrecht, 105 social rental homes will be realized through topping up.
For the construction of the social rental homes, the province will provide a financial contribution of € 3.1 million. This contribution helps cover the difference between the construction costs and the revenues, so that these social rental homes can still be realized.
Alderman Maarten Burggraaf (Urban Development): The more than 2,000 new homes of the Maasterras are of great importance for the future of our city. A pleasant new living place for many Dordrecht residents. Just a stones throw from the station, it also provides a good entrance to our city, which Dordrecht deserves.
Wim van der Kruijff (Housing): Its very nice that we can build affordable homes on the Maasterras for more than half. Thanks to the provinces subsidy, we have been able to increase the percentage of social homes. Together with the 30% affordable owner-occupied homes, we are creating a place that is accessible to everyone.
Building good and affordable homes is what its all about,” says deputy Anne Koning (Housing). “It costs a lot of money and effort, and that’s why we as a province step in. We have € 3.1 million to fill gaps and are working hard to come up with a good plan. All those looking for housing deserve that we take that extra step, and that is exactly what we are doing.
New Bus Depot Location
To make room for the development of the area, the current bus depot must be relocated. The province and the municipality have also made agreements about the search for a new location for it. The parties find it important that public transport continues to function well. The province, municipality, and Qbuzz plan to establish a new preferred location for the bus depot by the end of 2025. And that within 10 minutes travel time from Dordrecht station.
Deputy Frederik Zevenbergen (Mobility) is pleased: I am very happy that we have come to a solution for the tricky details surrounding the bus depot. You dont want to go too far from the starting point of the buses. So its great that we can both take advantage of this opportunity for housing construction and continue to guarantee good public transport.
With the signing of the agreement, an important step has been taken in the cooperation between the municipality of Dordrecht and the Province of South Holland. The coming period will focus on the further elaboration and implementation of the agreements made.
