On December 16, 2025, the new whitepaper ‘The Economy of South Holland: Earning, Sharing, Changing’ was presented. The publication was created by experts from the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities, in collaboration with partners such as the Province of South Holland, InnovationQuarter, and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency.

South Holland is an important economic engine of the Netherlands. At the same time, the province faces major challenges. The researchers show how South Holland can continue to earn money in the future while working towards a sustainable and social economy. They see opportunities in the major transitions the province is facing.

The whitepaper addresses themes such as the labor market, smart land use, climate and energy, digital innovation, and the role of collaboration in economic development. Researchers describe how a cleaner and sustainable economy can create new jobs and how South Holland can grow into a strong region for AI, quantum, and biotechnology. They also emphasize that cooperation between governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions remains necessary to seize economic opportunities.

The whitepaper also includes practical insights, with contributions from, among others, the municipality of The Hague, Leiden Bio Science Park, QuTech, and LeQuest. Deputy Meindert Stolk received the first printed copy of the whitepaper during the event The Economy of South Holland in Focus. The whitepaper is now available to read.
