Over the next 10 years, more than 280,000 housing units are planned in South Holland. The plans up to 2035 have been deemed promising by the provincial government. The goal is to build significantly for every budget and every municipality during this period. This should solve the housing shortage.
The province has determined that 2,333 housing projects comply with provincial regulations. Some of these still need to meet certain conditions. Approving these plans is an important step in the construction process. Without provincial approval, projects cannot be built. South Holland then helps municipalities to get the plans built as quickly as possible.
Every spring, the provincial government decides which housing plans fit within the provincial Environmental Policy. Municipalities submit projects and the province checks one last time if the locations are suitable for housing and if enough is being built in every price category. This is necessary to ensure that South Holland is a province where it is good to live, work, and do business.
Housing Shortage
The province of South Holland is planning ahead. For the period between 2022 and 2030, agreements were made with municipalities, the national government, and housing corporations. These agreements involved realizing nearly a quarter of a million homes. Housing construction will continue in the province after this period as well.
Deputy Anne Koning is pleased with this step. “This is a really important step for people looking for a home. I am glad there are so many good plans in our municipalities.” The province also continues discussions with municipalities about new plans being submitted.
