From June 17 to 19, 2025, South Holland will be the stage for Seagriculture EU 2025, the European conference for the seaweed sector. This leading event takes place in Rotterdam and brings together international leaders in seaweed innovation under the theme: Seaweed 2.0: Today’s Scaling for Tomorrow’s Needs.
Building a Future-Proof Seaweed Industry Together
The seaweed sector plays an increasingly important role in the transition to a sustainable and circular economy. Seaweed can contribute to healthier diets, sustainable materials, biobased applications, and cleaner oceans. During Seagriculture EU 2025, the focus will be on scaling up and professionalizing the sector, with significant attention to collaboration across the entire chain – from grower to end-user.
The province of South Holland is proud to partner with the municipality of Rotterdam for this international event. Deputy Meindert Stolk (Economy and Innovation): “South Holland is a region where innovation and diversity come together – from leading research to strong industrial and agricultural sectors. Seaweed offers enormous opportunities in the transition to a circular and sustainable economy. Being the host region for Seagriculture EU 2025 underscores our commitment to blue innovation and building future-proof industries.”
Rich Program with International Speakers
On June 17, participants can choose from two exclusive excursions: to the seaweed breeding and propagation company Hortimare in Heerhugowaard or the research institute NIOZ in Yerseke. Both locations offer a unique insight into the practice and science behind seaweed production.
On June 18 and 19, the conference will offer a varied program with plenary sessions, panel discussions, pitches from seaweed startups, and poster presentations. Speakers from the United Nations (FAO), Rabobank, TotalEnergies Corbion, and universities worldwide will share their knowledge and vision. Additionally, there will be a trade fair where companies present their seaweed products and services.
South Holland as an Innovation Hub for Seaweed
With strong maritime, agrifood, and biotechnology sectors, along with an excellent knowledge infrastructure, South Holland is ideally the place for seaweed innovation. The province collaborates with entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions, and governments to create a robust ecosystem for sustainable growth and circular solutions.
Discover the Opportunities for Your Sector
Seaweed is more than maritime. From food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics to construction, textiles, and energy – more and more sectors are discovering the potential of seaweed as a sustainable, biobased alternative.
Seagriculture EU 2025 offers a unique opportunity for companies outside the traditional seaweed sector to explore how seaweed can be integrated into their own chain, products, or processes.
Be inspired by successful applications, meet innovators from other sectors, and discover new collaboration opportunities that contribute to a circular and future-proof economy.
