With the municipal elections in March approaching, the commissioner warned about the declining willingness to actively participate in local government and called for a renewed appreciation of representatives. At the same time, he emphasized the need for innovation and knowledge development to make the Frisian economy future-proof. “With 30,000 fewer people in the labor market in the coming years, action is needed,” said Brok.
Special attention was given to the Wadden area. Brok spoke of alarming research results and called for international cooperation and a structural approach to scientific research. According to the commissioner, culture also deserves a more prominent place in national policy: “Culture connects, nurtures imagination, and strengthens citizenship.”
Finally, he looked forward with hope to Kings Day in Dokkum, a moment when Fryslân will show its best side nationally and internationally. “Preparations are running smoothly. I am impressed by the involvement, organizational strength, and creativity of the people of Dokkum.”
