The Sustainability of the Frisian Agricultural Business 2026 scheme encourages investments by the Province of Fryslân that improve water quality, strengthen soil health, and enhance animal welfare. Examples include precision fertilization equipment, energy-efficient installations, controllable drainage, or facilities for increased grazing. Investments contributing to biodiversity, nature-inclusive cultivation, and better animal welfare are also eligible. The investments eligible for subsidy are listed in appendix 1 of the opening decision.

Deputy Abel Kooistra: “This scheme is available to all farmers, from conventional to nature-inclusive. A diverse farming sector strengthens the robust and future-proof position of agriculture in Fryslân. This makes the sector more efficient while simultaneously enhancing the positive impact of agricultural businesses on our living environment.”

Who can apply for subsidy?

Farmers and farmer cooperatives can apply for subsidies for physical investments. The investments contribute to improving water quality and soil health, sustainable energy, biodiversity on and around the farm, nature-inclusive management, animal welfare, or efficient use of natural resources such as water, soil, and air.

Subsidy amounts

The subsidy application must be at least €25,000 and may not exceed €124,999. The subsidy allocates €2 million for young farmers under 40 years old, with a subsidy rate of 55%. Additionally, €2 million is made available for all farmers with a subsidy rate of 40%.
