Through the Open Community Fund (IMF), the Province of Fryslân already made €1 million available in 2024 for the sustainability of community buildings in Fryslân. In the 2023 and 2025 calls, a total of 187 buildings were supported.

Applying for IMF Sustainability Fund for Community Buildings

Applications can be submitted by foundations and associations that own, or have the right of superficies or leasehold on, existing social real estate for common use without profit motive. A maximum of €35,000 per project is available up to a maximum of 50% of the costs. Initiators may apply for subsidies for the sustainability of building(s) and additional costs (for example, replacing a roof before solar panels can be installed).

Last Call

We notice that we are receiving fewer applications for the sustainability of buildings from associations and foundations. In consultation with the national government, the DUMAVA scheme has been made as suitable as possible for smaller social real estate, so that in the future no separate provincial fund will be needed. Applicants who do not qualify for a subsidy in this last call can thereafter apply again to the regular Open Community Fund.

Assessment Criteria

The submitted projects are assessed by an independent advisory committee consisting, among others, of an installer, sustainability advisor, and treasurers of associations from the Province of Fryslân. They determine which projects receive subsidies based on assessment criteria. The advisory committee evaluates based on the following criteria: Sustainability, Savings on total annual costs, Community value, and Feasibility.

Applications for IMF Sustainability Fund for Community Buildings are possible from Monday, November 3 until Thursday, November 20 at 5:00 PM. For more information about the scheme, visit www.fryslan.frl/imfverduurzaming
