In the policy letter, the province of Fryslân looks at developments that have been ongoing for some time. Changes in the population play a significant role, such as aging (more elderly), depopulation (fewer young people), and individualization (more people living alone). These changes affect how pleasant and livable an area is. The province wants to contribute to a pleasant living environment. It does this by sharing knowledge, connecting people and organizations, putting important topics on the agenda, and providing financial support.

Deputy Sijbe Knol: “This policy letter is an important step to maintain and enhance the quality of life in Fryslân. With an investment of 4.5 million euros over the next two years, we are giving a strong impulse to livability in Fryslân. We are investing in health, social cohesion, and equal opportunities, so that our province remains strong and livable for the future. This 4.5 million euros is in addition to the more than 27 million euros we have invested during this period in the livability of our province, among others through Doarpswurk, Planbureau Fryslân, Iepen Mienskipsfûns, and Leader.”

Execution

While the policy letter outlines the main lines and determines the themes, the implementation program concretely specifies what the province will work on in the coming years. At the beginning of 2026, an implementation program for the period 2026-2027 will be established. This implementation program will include, among other things, concrete actions and projects that fit within the three pillars. All of them contribute to the preservation and strengthening of livability in Fryslân.
