Under a familiar title, the Netherlands Court of Audit has published its strategy for the coming years: Trust in Accountability – Strategy 2026-2028. This document explicitly continues the strategic choices of recent years, with some adjusted emphases.
The mission of the High Council of State remains: contributing to improving the functioning and performance of the central government. With this, the Court of Audit aims to be a pillar of democracy and the rule of law. In examining ministries and executive organizations of the central government, the Court of Audit will give extra attention in the coming years to the themes of safety, health, environment, and climate. Additionally, the more functional theme of digitalization of the central government will have an important place within the research programming.
The results achieved for citizens and businesses through national policy are brought into view. This happens every spring in the comprehensive accountability research, but also throughout the year in reports focusing on the effectiveness and efficiency of policy. The 2025 approach is continued to actively gather suggestions from residents for research. In this way, the Court of Audit aims to increase insight into the spending of public money and the learning capacity of the central government.
