The number of German students in the Netherlands is largest in South Limburg, where 4.4 thousand attend a university or college. In the city of Groningen and surroundings, there are 2.3 thousand, followed by 2.0 thousand in North Limburg, 1.9 thousand in Twente, and 1.2 thousand in the Arnhem/Nijmegen area.
Outside the border area, the number of German students is largest in the Amsterdam region with 3.0 thousand. Their share is small, about 1 in 50 students is German there.
