As of May 1, 63 percent of Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands were in paid employment. This is more than a year earlier: on May 1, 2024, only 57 percent were employed. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) based on new figures.

The Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the Netherlands after the Russian invasion at the end of February 2022 do not need a work permit to work. This gives them an exceptional position compared to other migrants from outside the European Union or the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

As of May 1, there were 96 thousand Ukrainian refugees aged 15 to 65 in the Netherlands. Among them, those aged 25 to 45 are most often in paid employment, while young people (15 to 25 years) are the least likely to be employed. Women work more often than men (64 percent versus 61 percent).
