Almost a quarter of self-employed pedagogical professionals prefer salaried employment
Research shows that almost a quarter of self-employed pedagogical professionals would prefer salaried employment over being self-employed.
Of all self-employed entrepreneurs without personnel (self-employed without employees, zzp’ers), 11 percent would prefer to work in salaried employment if they had free choice. Among zzp’ers with a pedagogical profession – such as teachers, childcare workers, or teaching assistants – this is more than twice as high at 23 percent. This emerges from the Self-Employed Labour Survey (ZEA) 2025, a biennial study by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and TNO. Self-employed entrepreneurs without personnel (zzp’ers) were asked whether they would prefer to work in salaried employment or as self-employed if they could freely choose. Among the 1.2 million zzp’ers, the share who prefer salaried employment has remained around 11 percent since 2017. Zzp’ers in commercial (7 percent) and agricultural professions (8 percent) want this least often.
