It is taking increasingly longer for new homes to be completed after the permit is granted. It now takes nearly 2 years to deliver an average home, compared to almost 1.5 years in 2015. Especially in urban areas, housing construction takes more time. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) based on new figures.

Of the new homes delivered in the first three quarters of 2025, half had their first permit granted less than 23 months ago. For the fastest quarter, the first permit was granted less than 16 months ago, while for the slowest quarter it was more than 35 months ago. The time it takes to deliver a home can vary per quarter because not the same type of homes are delivered each quarter or in the same municipality.

Ten years ago, it took less time to deliver homes than now. For homes delivered in 2015, half were delivered within 16 months after the first permit was granted. Three quarters were delivered within 25 months then.
